London Heritage Quarter

About the Client

London Heritage Quarter are responsible for promoting an area that covers many of Central London's most iconic visitor attractions. They employ roving Ambassadors who welcome thousands of visitors every year, offering them assistance and advice on their time in the city.

The Brief

The client wanted a pocket-sized paper map that their Ambassadors could hand out to visitors to the area. It needed to encourage and support recipients to explore the area on foot, while providing them with practical information and local knowledge.

Our Approach

We recognised LHQ's Ambassadors as the experts in what their visitors wanted from a map, so our first step was to organise a workshop where Ambassadors could share their insights with us. This formed the basis for our back-of-map content: insider tips, short cuts, good-value places to eat and fascinating history, all arranged in a concise and readable 'Top 3' format. To encourage journeys on foot we included a simple map showing walking times between key sites, and a self-guided tour of the riverfront.

For LHQ it was important that the map represented their brand identity, while still feeling like part of the Footways family of publications. Our designers were able to integrate the LHQ brand colour palette with ours in a way that feels true to both brands. The map itself highlights the trusted Footways network of quiet and enjoyable walking routes within the LHQ boundary, helping visitors to navigate the area away from main roads. We added value with a digital version of the map that LHQ could embed on their website, including around 80 points of interest supplemented with Footways photography.
