Red admiral
A large migrant butterfly that arrives in London from North Africa and Europe in early summer to lay its eggs on stinging nettles. The adults feed on the nectar of buddleia, bramble and Michaelmas-daisy. A few overwinter, which is why some adults can be seen here in early spring.
